What is jinping dam?

Jinping Dam, also known as Jinping I Dam, is a large hydroelectric dam located on the Yalong River in southwestern China. The construction of the dam began in 2005 and was completed in 2014. With a height of 305 meters and a length of 1,066 meters, it is one of the tallest and longest dams in the world.

The Jinping Dam is capable of producing 6.8 gigawatts of electricity, making it the largest hydropower project in China and the third largest in the world. It contains 16 hydroelectric generators, which supply power to the surrounding areas and help to reduce China's reliance on coal-fired power plants.

The construction of the Jinping Dam was not without controversy, however. The dam has been criticized by environmental groups for its impact on the local ecosystem and for its displacement of over 100,000 people who lived in the area surrounding the dam. Despite these concerns, the Chinese government has continued to invest heavily in hydropower projects to meet the country's growing energy demands.
